He began his career in graphic design in the late 1990s, before focusing his practice on type design a few years later. After completing the MA in Typeface Design at the University of Reading, he earned his PhD there in 2019 with a thesis titled A new method of analysing printed type: the case of 15th-century Venetian romans. Building on this research, he published The Jenson Roman, one of the most influential types in the history of printing, in 2024. In 2022, he co-authored Designing Type Revivals with Michele Patanè, which has since been translated into Chinese. He is a visiting research fellow at the University of Reading and lectures at various universities. He also publishes articles and gives lectures, and is a member of the Nebiolo History Project.
