Sempione Grotesk is a sanserif typeface inspired by the Swiss tradition, featuring a large x-height. It performs well at all sizes, from small to large, and is suitable for both publishing and advertising. This typeface incorporates diverse typographic traditions and ideas that have been reinterpreted—such as ligatures, ornaments, and other elements typically associated with serif typefaces—alongside features characteristic of the Swiss school of sans serifs, including horizontal terminations and letters with uniform width.
The result is a type family with weights ranging from Thin to Black, including small caps, old-style numerals, ligatures, and decorative elements. Its italic counterpart is called Cursive, with shapes that evoke true italics.
Sempione Grotesk also has a companion typeface, Sempione Modern, whose letterforms recall early 20th-century sanserifs and include a slanted italic style.
